Meet the midVenturesLAUNCH people’s choice winner: CookItFor.Us
October 12th, 2010midVenturesLAUNCH wanted the people to speak. We wanted to hear from you about which companies stood out, which grabbed you and said, “You know what? This company has something that excites me. I want to see more of this.”
In order to do so, mstir.com created an app for the event, which included QR codes for each company with their profile, logo and social media websites. Whenever a conference attendee decided they liked a certain company, they would vote via their iPhones or Androids by simply scanning in the code.
We would like to proudly introduce midVenturesLAUNCH 2010 People’s Choice Winner: CookItFor.Us, made up of Moshe Tamssot (Founder & CEO), Conrad Fuhrman (CTO), and Conrad Styczen (COO).
After the hectic post-launch week, we connected with Moshe Tamssot and he filled us in on all of the happenings since his 13-hour demo day and subsequent win. “The reaction has been phenomenal,” Tamssot says, “MidVenturesLAUNCH has been an incredible experience for us, setting the stage to connect with so many incredible people and organizations, including Cravers, Makers, Investors, Recipe Sites, Food Bloggers, Food Media Producers, and Food Manufacturers. We’re open to partnerships that can help bring this vision to life. The people are cheering us on because they’ve had a taste of the future, and they want this future now! We can never thank them enough for their support.”
The website developed from three individuals who had never previously met “around a vision of revenue generating services focused on food.” This group founded by Tamssot, called the Monks of Invention, “a social experiment in new business creation,” gave CookItFor.Us it’s first platform. “CookieBots was the first iteration of that vision,” remarked Tamssot, “focused just on cookies…The concept and the iPhone App that we developed won the “Best Overall” App Award at Social Dev Camp Chicago. One of the prizes was a demo table at MidVenturesLAUNCH. So, we rebranded, and redeveloped the site to support any recipe [not just cookies] that Cravers and Makers wanted.”
Some might say they had an obvious advantage by piling mound-fuls of cookies with such names as Triple Threat Chocolate Cookies, Conrad’s Best Damn Gluten Free Cookies or the oh-so-modest, Best Friggin’ Chocolate Chip Cookies in the World. The names lived up to their reputation, however, and despite the small size of the demo tables which they said proved a bit of a challenge, their ingenuity certainly caught the attention of passersby. The other co-founder Conrad Fuhrman “constructed a display that broke out of the envelope by going vertical, complete with three monitors that enabled us to deliver demo’s 360 degrees to groups of visitors at once. Our display was always well trafficked,” says Tamssot.
It wasn’t just the display that won it. The innovative concept is what is truly catching. A recipe-driven service committed to bringing locally-sourced food to local “cravers.” They think of the recipe as software code – it must be made how it’s described or it won’t work.
“We’ve created an open marketplace where Cravers and Makers can connect,” Tamssot says, “The market allows Cravers to share their food desires and recipes, and Makers to highlight their creations — in real time, and location based. From a business perspective, CookItFor.Us takes care of the mechanics, making it easier for everyone to simply enjoy fresher made foods, made their way.
“As Cravers’ demands shift on a daily basis, nimble Makers can adjust what’s cooking. Likewise, Makers can present altogether new ideas that Cravers may never have thought of. It’s the democratization of food production, in real time, in a way that’s actually scalable and monetizable.
“Cravers select Makers that best meet their needs, based on their profiles, certifications and social ratings. Makers include restaurants, bakeries, chefs and commercial kitchens –many of the same trusted food preparers that Cravers deal with every day. For Makers it’s a way to profitably grow their businesses by eliminating guesswork, making foods inspired by what’s actually being Craved, and earning the loyalty of Cravers with their creations. Everyone benefits!”
Judging by what they’ve cooked up so far, we can’t wait for the next course.
The website is private beta at the moment, but you can register at the website. Be one of the first to experience this phenomenal service!
